12-10-07 Dinner with my husband which consisted of skirt steak laddened with Sharma seasoning and a vegetable side of sautéed spinach with garlic mashed potatoes. (Sharma is an Indian spice consisting of ginger, turmeric and other spices). Wine - George Dubeuf (France) - Pinot Noir 2005 Vin De Pays D'oc $6.99 - this wine was deep dark cherry in color, and had aromas of black cherries and a hint of earth, it was light bodied in the mouth, with youthful flavors of black cherry and spice. The flavor lingered for more than a short time. I have to say that even though it oxidized fairly quickly in the glass, it was one of the best examples of Vin De Pays D'oc Pinot Noirs I've ever had at that price.
03-22-08 This night I made pizza (homemade of course). There were two different kinds; cheese with pepperoni and margarita. Both were a family hit! Wine - Marchese de Petri (Italy) - Il Valore 2003 Chianti Riserva $4.99 - dark black cherry in color, with aromas of cherries and vanilla, it was medium bodied in the mouth, with classic aged Chianti wine flavors of dark cherries, spice and earth, with a hint of vanilla. The tannic feel in the mouth was perfect. For the price, this Chianti Riserva was really good. It wasn't as in-depth as some of the more pricey Chianti Riserva's I've had, but with my pizza it was perfect!
03-30-08 So yesterday we went on our weekly food run and picked up a bottle of wine that I could not wait to taste. We were planning on having it with our Sunday meal, but I couldn't wait that long so by mid afternoon I opened my wine pulled out some Belgium dark chocolate and savored. This match was perfect! Chablis and dark chocolate! Wine - Blason de Bourgogne Cuvee 2005 Chablis (Burgundy) $9.99 - clear pale yellow-green in color, with aromas of earth mixed in with green apple. Light in body, on the mouth, with stark green apple mineral flavors. Medium alcohol, loads of acidity and a short but pleasant Burgundy Chablis finish. Green apple through and though. It tasted fabulous with my dark Belgium chocolate!
